IMPORTANT MESSAGE

The Perth Market Authority (PMA) and Shadmar Pty Ltd have announced an agreement that will see the PMA assume responsibility and ownership for the operation of the Canning Vale Sunday Market (CVSM) effective 30 September 2009.

CVSM is open to the public and attracts over 300 stallholders and 5000 visitors each week. Shadmar Pty Ltd has been the licensee for the CVSM since 1997. Shadmar spokesman Greg Martin has stated that the agreement allows PMA to progress its plans for a new weekend market to commence in 2011 at Market City, Canning Vale.

We recognised the importance of the PMA working closely with CVSM stallholders and the community as it rolls out the new Market in 2011. Shadmar recognised PMAs strategies and will cooperate fully with the PMA to ensure that there is a smooth transition. We are aware of the PMAs future plans and the benefit that the PMA considers will flow through for present and future stallholders and members of the public Mr Martin said.

PMA Chief Executive Officer, Mike Donnelly, said the agreement with Shadmar allows PMA to take an important step in its strategic plan for a purpose-built new market.

In February this year PMA announced plans for a new all weather facility in 2011. The relocated market would free up the existing undercover buyers area to cater for the States expanding fruit and vegetable industry. Operating the weekend market in the interim will give PMA invaluable insight into putting concepts into reality Mr Donnelly said

The new market will promote fresh local produce with focus on promotion and education about WA food, regional produce and community involvement, together with a healthy lifestyle. This focus is in line with the Minister for Agriculture and Foods key objective of building a positive profile for the industry.

We are looking forward to working with all stakeholders on meeting these objectives he said
